Meet Amaya
Amaya J. Urruti Heath (she/her/hers | ella) is a graduate-level intern currently pursuing her Master of Social Work (MSW) at the University of South Florida. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Indiana University with an interdepartmental major in Philosophy & Political Science, a major in Spanish, and a minor in Art History, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Apparel Merchandising with a minor in Business. Amaya approaches her clinical work from a trauma-informed, decolonial, and anti-oppression framework, with a deep commitment to meeting each individual where they are. She believes healing is not one-size-fits-all and works to integrate multiple therapeutic modalities in ways that honor clients’ lived experiences, identities, unique needs, and strengths.
Amaya is especially passionate about working with 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and other marginalized populations. She brings direct service and advocacy experience working alongside formerly homeless trans youth, survival sex workers, and individuals navigating addiction. Her work is grounded in compassion and non-judgment, with a Collective Liberation orientation that recognizes the impacts of systemic harm while centering resilience, connection, and community care. She strives to create spaces that feel affirming, culturally responsive, and rooted in mutual respect, where clients can explore their stories with honesty and safety.
As a clinician-in-training, Amaya brings curiosity, humility, and a relational approach to her work. She values collaboration and believes clients are the experts of their own lives. Whether navigating trauma, identity, intergenerational experiences, or life transitions, Amaya meets clients with care, presence, and a commitment to walking alongside them to support them rather than directing the path.
Outside of the clinical space, Amaya is deeply engaged in comparative religious and philosophical studies and is interested in how diverse spiritual systems inform healing and meaning-making. She herself was raised in Siddha Yoga and received shaktipat from her Guru as a child and while she continues to understand herself as a yogi grounded in Sanatana Dharma, she currently identifies as a Monistic Panentheistic Animistic Omnist who enjoys thoughtfully integrating spiritual wisdom to explore different understandings of the cosmos and our place within it. Amaya is also passionate about language learning and is currently working to better her Basque and Guaraní as a way to reconnect with more of her ancestral roots. In her downtime, you’ll often find her sipping yerba mate, taking long walks, reading, taking care of the plants she tends, spending time with family and friends, and nurturing practices that support both personal and collective well-being.
